Take Me Out to the Ball Game

We had a fabulous time at the Bee's game recently! We got the "best seats in the house" from WCF (thanks Greg) and had an enjoyable evening eating hotdogs, brots, peanuts and popcorn while taking in America's favorite pastime.

It was kids-eat-free-night at the ballpark, what a fun surprise for us. Rosie turned up her nose at eating a hotdog until I told her she could buy a treat when it was gone. She ate it up in a hurry! It was so nice to send the 3 kids to ride the train by themselves; Bud is such a responsible big brother. We took our friend John McCord with us, he used to watch Jono play baseball at Crown Colony when they were young. The kids loved watching the game and singing "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" with Frank Layden during the 7th inning stretch. I love to watch the sky darken and the mountains disappear as night falls. It was a great night for our family!

Our Anniversary

We are celebrating our 19th wedding anniversary! At dinner, we told our waitress it was our anniversary. She didn't believe us when we told her we had been married for 19 years. She kept repeating, "Not five years, not five years?" It was funny.

We share this date, June 28th, with two of my siblings. Happy Anniversary to Sara and Corey, and Jonny and Haley! (June 28th is traditionally the driest day of the year, so it is a great day to plan an outdoor wedding reception; our family had 3 beautiful outdoor receptions without summer storms.)

A Week with Grandma & Cousins

Monday:

We played at the park by Laura's house on Monday. Right from the start the boys and girls separated, which was so funny! The kids ran through the fountain and played at two of the playgrounds at the huge park. Bud challenged Grammy to a game of horse, which reminded us of the game of horse Grammy and Jono played many years ago in St. George. Grammy still uses her famous "granny shot". We ate lunch and had a great afternoon!

Later, Jono, Grammy and I, joined her cousins for a Clinger Family reunion. We got a great picture of all five Segerstedt children. Grammy loved seeing her extended family.

Tuesday:

Laura had her baby! The baby's name is Julia Kate and she is beautiful. We are so happy for the Ashby family.

Wednesday:

I forgot my camera, so the fun and excitement are not documented! We spent the morning at Wheeler Farm with the Cooks, Grammy and Macy; and the afternoon at the aquarium with the Summerhays', Katelyn and Macy. It was a great day!

Thursday:

We went downtown to Temple Square. Grammy wanted to visit with three of her former Sister missionaries who are finishing their missions at Temple Square. Grammy was able to see all three of them and visit with two of them. They were so excited to see her also, it's obvious how much they loved being in her mission.

We loved walking around the grounds and seeing the temple up close. After, we hopped on TRAX and rode to the Gateway and ate lunch at California Pizza Kitchen. We ate a lot of food! It was another fun and exciting day!

Friday:

Everyone came over to our house and the kids played on the slip 'n' slide and flooded the sandbox. All of Grammy's 14 grandchildren were here! The grandkids have really gotten along very well all week, which is so great for the adults-- then we can visit with each other. We had Cafe Rio for dinner; again we ate a lot of food!

The sad part of the night was saying good-bye to Grammy. We love her and can't wait to see her again!

Saturday:

Grammy's home to Grandpa, but the Pulsiphers are still here so the party continues. The older cousins decorated cakes at our house. Check out their awesome creations!

Monday:

We had one last activity with the Pulsiphers before they drive home, we went to the zoo! We had a big group with us (all the grandkids except baby Julia), so we were slow moving and at the zoo for a long time. But, it was a very fun day.

Grandma's Here & Father's Day

Grandma came home from her mission for a week to be here for the birth of Laura's baby. We are so happy! We have missed her so much and we love to have her here, if only for a short time. It does, however, make us miss Grandpa even more, and we wish him a Happy Father's Day!

Grandma spent one night with us (in her own home), before moving to Laura and JD's house to help them. She helped the kids get ready for bed and read books to them. It was such a sweet feeling to know Grammy's here!

Happy Father's Day to Jono! He is such a fantastic dad and we all love him so much. Happy Father's Day to Grandpa, we can't wait to visit you later this summer. And, we certainly miss our Papa Donut.

Jono's Best Birthday Ever!

On Jono's birthday, the two of us were in Palm Springs for our annual golf/ laying by the pool vacation. He woke up early, turned on ESPN and heard the news that the University of Utah would be invited to join the Pac 10. He said it was his best birthday ever!

The next day, home in SLC, we were invited to a press conference at the football stadium. President Young, the President of the University, was there, along with Chris Hill (our athletic director), the Commissioner of the Pac 10, the Governor of Utah and many others. We watched as Pres. Young signed the papers, it's official! It was so exciting; a great day to be a Ute! After the papers were signed, the head of the Rose Bowl presented roses to Pres. Young and said, "Here in the Pac 10 we say, "Every football season begins with dreams of roses!"

Not to be overshadowed by the greatest event to ever happen at the U of U, we had a great vacation in Palm Springs. We spent mornings by the pool and the afternoons golfing. It was perfect! Jono golfed really well, his best round was a 66! (I don't need to mention the course is a par 70, do I?) We rarely saw people on the course, and when we did, they let us pass right away. He golfed 2 rounds in record time every day. We also loved shopping at the amazing outlets right outside Palm Springs. Good thing Jono's travel golf bag can hold a lot of shopping bags!

Every night we ate delicious dinners, Palm Springs has great restaurants. The first night we got there, while eating dinner next to floor to ceiling windows, we were alarmed to see them shaking. It was an earthquake! Another one soon followed and we heard on the news they were 4.8 and 4.4. Two nights later, as we were falling asleep there was another earthquake. This one shook the bed and we heard the ceiling and walls creaking. It was a bigger one this time, 5.7! Rebecca knew we were in town and texted me. She was home alone with the little girls and as freaked out as we were.

Another crazy thing was Jono got pulled over by a motorcycle cop. He wasn't speeding, he hadn't put on his seat belt! He was characteristically rude to the policeman, and we later found out that can affect the price of your ticket. When Coleman heard about this, he was fascinated. "Click it or ticket, dad!", he said.

Thanks to Jen F. and the Cooks for tending our kids while we were gone. We really missed them, but it was a fabulous vacation!

What Not to Wear

It's very rare that Coleman takes the initiative and dresses himself; maybe it's a good thing! Who knew stripes, plaid, long socks, and a vest could look like this?

This is how Rosie looked one evening, after her nightly shower and not wearing her usual cute monkey pj's. Yes, that is a sleep mask on her head!

This is how we find Coleman in the morning; pj shirt off and sleeping at the end of the bed. He gets hot like Bud does, the rest of us are always cold!

And finally, sweet Rose. She said, "Look at me, I'm just like a normal mom!"

Golfing Oettli Boys

Jono played in the City Amateur this past weekend at Bonneville Golf Course. He played great and I loved following him on the back nine of the second day. It was perfect weather and the course is beautiful. He shot 2 over for the tourney, which is awesome. We're proud of you Jono!

(Notice the no-show socks! This has been a topic of discussion at our house for the past year. Last summer Jono noticed that none of the Jr. golfers at Bud's tourneys wore long socks, so we bought no-show socks for Bud and Coleman. When we were in Hawaii at Christmastime, Jono bought no-show socks for himself and wore them this weekend. I really like the look, and I think he does also. His ankles, however, got seriously red!)

Bud had his first tourney of the summer on the first day of summer vacation. He shot a respectable 42 for 9 holes and finished 3rd. He is very proud of his bronze metal. Just like all golfers after 8 holes of good golf, he got nervous on number 9 and ended up with a triple bogey to miss finishing second. That's golf!

Even Jr. golfers enjoy chatting about their game after the round! (They get a hotdog, chips and drink with the entry fee.) I have to write that I love golf so much; I think it is a wonderful, lifelong sport that teaches great values and keeps you healthy. I just don't want to play it myself!
