We have been so excited for May to come so we can plant! We planted impatience flowers in the front yard and profusion zinnias in the backyard. We planted a garden on the property next to ours and we planted the putting green. Good thing Jono has a green thumb! We planted corn, peas, beans, tomatoes, pumpkins, zucchini, squash, strawberries and potatoes in our garden. You should have seen how excited Coleman was when we were outside working as a family; digging in the dirt and dropping the seeds in holes in the ground!
One night this month Jono and I were out to dinner when we got a call from the kids. They were screaming in the phone, "Coleman swallowed a penny!" We could not believe it. We hurried home, and sure enough, Coleman had put a penny in his mouth and mistakenly swallowed it. I placed a call to the pediatrian working this night. She soon called me back and said not to worry, it would come out in his poop; I didn't even need to look for it. She added "Your little guy will be just fine... wait, wait a minute. I am looking at his chart and he's not so little. What is a seven year old doing swallowing a penny?"
Another weekend night, Jono and I found ourselves without a babysitter. Bud and Rosie were both out with friends and so we had to take Coleman out to dinner with us. We went to Market Street with my parents. I ordered Coleman a hamburger from the kids menu. As soon as all our food arrived, he took one look at his hamburger and one look at my prime rib and realized who had the better meal. He ate most of my prime rib that night! He later bragged to the kids about his yummy Market Street meal and begs to go back all the time.
This month marks the end of the school year, and for Coleman the end of the school choir. The school choir at our elementary school is so wonderful and every year Rosie goes early to school one day a week to sing. This year I signed Coleman up also; big mistake! He complained every single time. I told him to have a positive attitude about it this year and he wouldn't have to participate next year. Check out his face in the pictures below; he is very unhappy and didn't sing a word! Also, look at his egg salad sandwich in the picture below to see how much he loves pepper.
We went to Bees game this month, we all love to go the Bees games. We love the warmer weather and try to be outside as much as possible. We have started playing our family football games again, for the first time in this yard. Jono and I challenge the kids and we play two hand touch or flag. The kids love it!
This was the month of concerts for Rosie. (I should write Rose. She has decided she wants to go by Rose!) She had an orchestra concert at school, the choir concert at school, and her ballet recital. She also auditioned for and made the school talent show. She was the opening act and played Old MacDonald on the violin. We loved having Grammy and Grandpa home to attend all the concerts. After being sick twice last month, we were so surprised that she got sick again this month also. She hasn't shown any signs of asthma, however, for the second year in a row which is fabulous.
I was really busy with end of the year activities at the elementary school and the junior high. I have been co-PTA president for the past two years at the elementary and am ready to pass those duties on to someone else. It has been very fun, but also very stressful at times and very time consuming. We bought a cotton candy machine and I have spent hours and hours (and hours and hours) making cotton candy for all the students on several occasions. I came home the last time and Coleman gave me a big hug. "You smell so good mom!" he said.
There was a day this month for free slurpees at 7-11. Bud went 4 different times during the day and drank 4 slurpees! He had many end of term projects to complete. He really had a great 7th grade year; he got very good grades and met some new friends that are nice boys. We are so proud of him! He really enjoyed signing yearbooks the last week of school and watching a movie in most of his 7 periods.
Coleman and Rosie have been playing with an old laptop computer Grammy gave them. Coleman plays Zoo Tycoon and Rosie types stories and her journal. They both like to play a typing tutor game on the internet. Coleman also is obsessed with Dragonvale on Bud's ipod. He and his cousin Brady will talk on the phone for up to an hour at a time talking about Dragonvale. Jono and I teach a Sunday School class to teenagers. One week our lesson was about anger management and we used a story about Coleman getting angry as an example. The next week Bud had the same lesson (he is not in our class). Bud's teacher had watched Coleman lose his temper at church and also used Coleman as an example!
We always enjoy Memorial Day and went to two cemetaries this year. We have really been missing Gordon so much. We wish he could see how much the kids have grown and we wish he could see our new house.
