Happy Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving Day this year was so beautiful that we spent lots of time outside.  Jono golfed 18 holes in the morning with a friend at Thanksgiving Point (how appropriate!).  Bud played in a football Turkey Bowl with his friends.  Coleman and I played spider solitaire snuggled in my bed, while Rosie slept in.

It was the year for us to eat at Grammy and Grandpa's house with all my brothers and sisters and many, many cousins.  We had over 30 people!  The dinner was delicious and we loved spending time together.  

After dinner, Jono, the boys and I went to play a little golf.  We were the only ones on the course!  It was very fun to golf in late November in beautiful weather.  (Bud better watch out because little Coleman is getting to be a good player!)

Then, the whole Summerhays clan went to a movie.  Jono and I stayed behind and cleaned up from the big dinner.  It was a wonderful Thanksgiving Day!

Other November News:

We got a fur throw for our couch recently; it is made of bobcat and came from the United Kingdom.  I am a mean mom and won't let my kids get a pet, so I told them this is our pet. You can see it in the picture above.  Rosie is the most sad of all the kids to not have a pet; she likes to pet the very soft fur and pretend it's real.

Bud told me that it was "No Shave November" in the Spanish classes at his school.  He was very disappointed that I hadn't noticed that he hadn't shaved his little mustache all month! One of his favorite classes at school is CTE.  He just made a hovercraft in this class that was really neat.  

We had some pine trees in our yard trimmed up a bit.  I am so glad that Jono called a tree service; I thought he was going to fall off the ladder and die last year when he trimmed them himself.

We love our ping-pong table and use it all the time.  Jono and his friend Jon have epic matches, they are both very competitive.  Now they have the next generation playing. Coleman and Jon's son Jackson were playing pingpong last week when Jon taught them to play bare-back.  It is a horrible game for 7 year olds to play!  This will be the last time they play when I'm around.  

Rosie and Coleman both won in the literature category for Reflections!  Rosie spent weeks writing and editing a story on the laptop about little boys dreaming of being astronauts while dealing with a bully.  Coleman, on the other hand, spent ten minutes the night before it was due. He wrote a paper about shark facts. They were both very clever and fun.  I was relieved that Rosie won; she hasn't won in Reflections for three years and is devastated afterwards when she doesn't win.  They both also won at the council level.  We have good little writers in our family!

At the awards ceremony at our school, the winning students told what inspired them. Coleman confidently stood in front of everyone and said,  "I was expired by sharks.  I love sharks and know many facts about them.  When I started my project, sharks was the first thing that popped in my head."  Rosie and all her cool sixth grade friends ended their speeches by saying,  "and... yah".  

Coleman's second grade class read a story this week about a bank.  Who better to be a guest speaker than Jono?  He had Coleman's class spellbound with information about the vault, new money, old money, interest, the Federal Reserve, and of course robbers!  He then gave them all a gold dollar to take home.  So exciting!

This is a picture after our Sunday night football game where the kids had a "Black-Out".  The next picture is from the next week they had a "White-Out".  Everyone takes this game very seriously, notice Jono's grass stains from slipping.  I also slipped on a pinecone and fell right on my bum; I was trying to get Coleman's flag and he scored after I slipped.  The  first picture is also of our firepit.  We just finished our firepit and love it!  

Bud is officially taller than me!  Jono got out the level to confirm it.  He is very, very excited!

Gametime for Coleman

Coleman has gone football crazy this fall.  It all started with the first Utah homegame of the year.  Bud and Coleman watched the game together on TV, and Bud explained every play to Coleman.  Coleman watched the entire game and has been hooked every since.

Hanging in Coleman's locker at home is a Utah Football poster.  After every game Coleman marks it as a win or loss.  Unfortunately, we have had many losses!  He noticed that the game on October 27 was a Black-out game and Coleman was determined to go.  We told him he could go, unless the game started too late at night.    (Gametimes are not announced until a week before the game.)  In the meantime, Coleman told anyone who would listen that he was going to the Black-Out game and that he was wearing his black Star jersey.

Then we had to deliver the bad news to Coleman; gametime was 8:30 pm.  Too late for him!  We promised if the next game was at an earlier time he could go.  The next home game was Washington State and it started at the perfect time of one in the afternoon-- Coleman could go!  Grandpa told Coleman the good news and Coleman was so excited!

Jono was out of town on a business trip, so Bud, Grandpa, Coleman and I went to the game.  It was a beautiful fall afternoon, a perfect day for college football!  We stopped at Hires on the way to eat lunch.  Coleman couldn't believe how fun it was to get car service.  He kept putting his seatbelt on, and we kept telling him to take it off.  (It was ironic because he doesn't like to wear his seatbelt when the car is moving!)  He enjoyed his hamburger and frosty rootbeer.

We got to the game in plenty of time to watch the teams warm up.  Coleman cannot sit by an adult without crawling into their lap to sit, so he sat on Grandpa's lap the first half and my lap the second half.  His favorite play of the game was Reggie Dunn returning the second half kick-off for a touchdown!  Utah played well and we were up 45 to 6.  With 30 seconds to go in the game, Grandpa was ready to leave.  Coleman was horrified-- can't we stay until it's over?  We stayed, of course, and then Coleman wanted to rush the field! 

It was very fun to be with Coleman at the Utah game!  (and Grandpa and Bud!!)

At our recent family football games, Coleman always has to receive the ball on kickoffs.  Bud asked if he could be the kickoff return man one time and Coleman yelled!  He said, "I'm Reggie Dunn, you're not Reggie Dunn!"

Also this month, we cooked our first turkey dinner for the season and had Grammy and Grandpa over to eat with us.  It was delicious!  You might notice in the picture from the Utah game Bud's long hair.  Ever since he turned 13, his hair has gotten very coarse and curly.  We blame it on puberty!  We saw a little boy with curly hair and Coleman whispered to me, "Look that boy looks like he's only 6 years old and he's already gone through puberty!"  Bud has had a little bit longer hair all summer and fall, but he was finally ready for a shorter hair cut.  Jono recently cut it with the flobee and it fillled the vacuum space right up with his coarse hair!

We had more snow in two days than we did all last winter.  Jono loves to shovel the driveway and walk way to the front door.  This kids loved playing in the snow!  Coleman refuses to wear his coat to recess and comes home sopping wet from the knees down because he still plays football at recess.  He is very forgetful (so is Rosie) and in the same week forgot his jacket, gloves, hat and football at school.  I am constantly checking the school's lost and found!
