Clara Barton and the Great Debater

Rosie recently completed a fabulous biography project about Clara Barton. She read books about Clara Barton and wrote a report about her life. She also memorized an oral presentation for the class History Fair and wore this cute First Aid apron that I made her. (I remember wearing a similar nurse apron that my mom made.) She did a great job on her presentation and was adorable as Clara Barton!

Bud has also been busy at work being a member of the 5th grade debate team. He choose to argue the negative side on the topic exporting renewable energy in Utah. His scores at the district debate qualified him to compete in the state debate tournament. At each debate he had had three rounds against three different debate teams. It's quite a process, and he was very nervous the days leading up to the debates. He did very well and we are so proud of him!

In other Bud news, he just completed his swimming and life saving merit badges. The challenging requirement in both badges was swimming to the bottom of a 9 foot pool and bringing a 10 pound brick to the surface and swimming in to the side of the pool. He had trouble doing it the first night, but after a pep talk by his dad, he completed the task the next night. Way to go Bud!

On a completely different note, this is a picture of Coleman and our cousin Connor. We were babysitting Connor, and Coleman wanted to give him some cheerios. Soon I had a floor covered with cereal and an empty family-sized box on the counter. I'm sure Connor had never seen so much cereal in his life; he was a very excited baby!
