Remembering Papa Donut

We lost our special Papa Donut earlier this week. It is so sad for us to say good-bye, but we are grateful that Jono was able to be with his dad when he died. We have had many great adventures with Papa Donut; fabulous golfing trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas, dinner at El Ferol, and eating donuts on Saturday mornings.

When Bud was young, Gordon came to our house every Saturday morning with a box of donuts and we sat at the bar and talked. Bud named him "Papa Donut" and the tradition continued for many, many years. We love you Papa Donut and will miss you very much!

Papa Donut loved Bud very much. He was proud Bud loves golf and does well in school. He promised to give Bud the red convertible when he turned 16.

Papa Donut had special feelings for Rosie, she's the first Oettli girl! He recognized her "free spirit" and said, "Oh Jono, I'm glad it's you raising her and not me!" He advised Jono to run credit checks on her prom dates. He wanted Rosie to be in the LPGA.

Papa Donut loved to be with Coleman, he was his little friend! After a hour of errands, he told Jono that he had never met anyone who could talk more than Coleman.
One week before he died, Papa Donut came over to watch golf
and sit by the fire, we were happy to have him in our home one last time.

I have not know Papa Donut (as he was intorduced to me ) that long long, but in the few years I have knowen him I felt like he was my grandpa :) One of my favorite memories of him was when I went to the hospital to see a friend and I went to the gift shop first to get her a card and guess who was working there to help me ! Papa Donut :) I will never forget he looked at me long and hard and said "Are you that girl that is all ways with Jenn and Jono watching Bud and them ?" I laughed and said " Yes, your Papa Donut Jono's dad , ya I am over there a lot, I love those guys like family." And he smiled and said " I love them very much too of course". And he did, any time he was at a birthday and what not you could see how much he loved his family. I was privliged to be at one saturday morning donut session :) and it was very fun he was all ways laughing !!! My best wishes go out to you all ! I will miss you Papa Donut .
