June

It's June, the beginning of summer!  We jumped right into summer activities with basketball camp, golf tournaments and swimming lessons.  It's the perfect mixture of fun activities along with time to relax and play with friends.

Bud had an especially fun week when it was his basketball camp.  He had camp with the Ashby boys and they either came to our house after or their house after.  One day, Critter picked up the boys and took them to the temple to do baptisms for the dead.  After, he treated them to dinner in the cafeteria.  Bud could not believe how amazing it was to have a cafeteria in the temple and loved the food!  He has gone from an extremely picky eater as a toddler to a boy who now tries and eats almost everything.  Bud got to go the youth conference for the first time.  They went to Snow College for 3 days and did many exciting events like a ropes course, giant water fight and a dance.

This month we had a Summerhays family stay-cation.  How fun!  We had a waterslide in Grammy and Grampy's yard, went to the Utah Museum of Natural History, Wheeler Farm, the zoo, and boating at East Canyon.  We had a fabulous time!  On the 28th it was our anniversary, Sara and Corey's anniversary, and Jonny and Haley's anniversary.  All the adults in the family went out to dinner to celebrate.

This month was Jono's birthday.  We celebrated with our friend John Mc. at the Bees game.  Jono really loves baseball and they had fireworks that night!  It was a very fun night.  We also went to another Bees game this month.

Rosie loves summer, just like the rest of us.  She loves hanging out at the pool and she never wants to leave when it's time to go.  She loves the Top 40 music they play (as opposed to the alternative rock I play in the car).  She knows every word and sings loudly.  Coleman thinks she is the expert and asked her, "It this song called 'Here's My Number' or 'Call Me Maybe'?  When it's her turn to sit in the front seat she immediately changes the radio station to 107.9.  One time the song was "I'm Sexy and I Know It".  The three kids sang every word at the top of their lungs!  I wish I had a camera to record skinny Coleman dancing during the wiggle part.  Rosie loves all her little girl cousins and is so excited whenever she gets to be with them.  She is obsessed with writing in her journal.  She carefully hides it each night, but occasionally I can find it and read it.  It is the funniest thing I have ever read!  She is a very clever writer and has a unique and oftentimes skewed view of our life.  Oh the anguish in the life of a tween!

Coleman has decided he doesn't like anything that starts with the letter S.  He doesn't like to sing, remember what I wrote about the school choir; or shoes, he takes his shoes off the second he walks into the house- he doesn't even know he is doing it.  Then, he can never find his shoes when it's time to go somewhere.  I keep a pair of crocs in his locker for him to put on.  He routinely golfs without shoes on, I carry him in the parking lot if the pavement is too hot, and then he golfs barefooted.  On several occasions we have gotten to our destination and discoved Coleman has forgotten to put shoes on before we left.  He walked all through IKEA without shoes, the library, and the mall.  Luckily he had socks on!  At the mall he was constantly wondering off and then running to catch up to us.  Without his shoes on he kept slipping and falling to the floor.  He got many strange stares.

Another S word Coleman doesn't like is silverware.  He eats all his food with his fingers, until I catch him and ask him to use his fork or spoon.  He also takes his shirt off any chance he gets.  He is so thin that his pants are always falling down a bit but his boxers are pulled way up, above his waistband; it's an interesting look.  He also doesn't like to wear his seatbelt and so I'm constantly checking to see if he buckled up.  We always laugh about Coleman and the S words!

Our garden is growing well, much to our family's delight!  We were also able to go fishing up Big Cottonwood this month, because we didn't get much snow this winter the run-off is already over.  It was very fun!  The kids love to make an area enclosed with big rocks to trap  the fish Jono catches.  Rosie loves all animals, including fish, and she tries to teach them tricks.  She also loves to pick them up, she has blue fingernails right now which looked strange against the fishes' bodies!  Fishing is one of our favorite summer activities.
