Five Concerts

This has been a busy season for young Oettli performers!  Last week, I attended a dance concert at Oakwood.  They have a full time dance specialist and she taught each grade a modern dance based on a theme they are studying in the classroom.  I have to write that Bud is not a fan of taking a weekly dance class, but Oakwood is one of a few chosen schools to receive an art grant to pay for the dance program.  It was very interesting.  (I don't have pictures on the post, sorry.)

The next concert was Rosie's jazz dance performance at Prodigy.  She has a great teacher and really enjoys her class.  Both of these concerts I enjoyed Coleman-free.  I was not so lucky at the band and orchestra concert.  Bud and the rest of the 4th graders performed a medley of songs on the flutaphones (a fancy name for records). Oakwood has a music specialist come to the school and teach the students.  This is a specialist that Bud enjoys!  During the show, I struggled with noisy and wiggly Coleman.

The next day, I was back to school again for one of my favorite Christmas activities, the Christmas singing concert.  Every grade performs two songs and the songs are festive and fun.  I had Coleman with me again and when a fellow mom saw the two of us before the concert, she burst into laughter.  I'm not sure if she was laughing at Coleman's hair, or the fact I was foolish enough to bring him back to school with me after the band concert.  I loved the songs Rosie and Bud sang, but we left before every grade performed.

The last concert was Coleman's preschool Christmas Program!  I loved walking into the preschool the other kids attended and Coleman was so excited to see me walk in, it melted my heart.  They sang the same songs Bud and Rosie sang and it brought back happy memories.  I should write the other kids sang the same songs, Coleman only sang 3 words; Dasher, Dancer, Prancer.  He looked around and stuck out his tongue and tried to leave the stage at the end of each song.  During the song when everyone was wearing reindeer antlers, he took his off and put them on his feet, knocking the antlers off the little girl in front of him.  I have it all on tape, if you want to see a funny show!
