Arrow of Light
Bud just earned his Cub Scout Arrow of Light award. It is a really big accomplishment and we are very proud of him! (And proud of ourselves, we are the Weblos leaders and it was a lot of work to help the boys earn this award.)
The Cub Master planned a ceremony for the three boys earning the award in the mountains. Our troop has a bridge for the boys to walk across symbolizing the transition from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. The boys get to burn their name in the bridge, adding to the names of the Scouts who have gone before them. They have been looking forward to adding their names ever since they became a Cub Scout. They also got arrows, to celebrate their Arrow of Light award.
Congratulations Bud!
I saved the most challenging requirements of the Arrow of Light until recently, and then called on Haley and Jonny to help. Haley taught the boys the Readyman badge. She covered so much in one session; first aid, the heimlich, shock, bleeding, heart attack, cuts, burns and much more. Jonny was her patient and the boys really wanted her to do mouth to mouth on him! Haley was so great and the boys learned so much. She even made them a handout.
A few weeks later, Jonny taught the Handyman badge. He showed the scouts how to change a tire, fix a bike tire, lawn mower safety, how to wash a car, check the oil level, and more. Just like Haley, he was awesome! I am so thankful to them for helping our Weblos Scouts. (Notice in the pictures that Rosie and Coleman are center stage for all the action. They are going to miss Cub Scouts more than anyone else!)
The last thing was needed to pass off for scouts was the Outdoorsman. Jono taught the boys fire safety and built a roaring fire. We let the boys light matches and they threw kindling in the fire. They were in fire heaven; usually they are forbidden to do things like that. We also roasted hotdogs and marshmellows. You would not believe how much food some of those boys ate!
We have been involved in Bud's Cub Scout troops for the last three years and have loved every minute. It's been fun to watch these boys grow up and we are glad Bud has such nice friends.

Congratulations Bud! We were happy to help!
He is looking so grown up. Way to go Bud. Did your Dad teach you the boy scout way of putting out a fire?
Great job, Bud. What a wonderful place to have the ceremony and the idea of the bridge is great. We love you all.
Good job Bud!
Great job Bud! I love how you burned your name.
